DiSC Goes Way Beyond the Profile

What’s one of the MOST important things any manager needs to understand about him/herself?  Well, we could list a lot of good thoughts here, but certainly ranked up there would be “understand how I am affecting the people around me”. And why is that?

Many managers are so pressed for time they rarely reflect on the daily impact they have on those who report directly to them. We always like to ask managers, “What would your employees be saying about you around the dinner table tonight? Is it something complimentary or might they be complaining about your lack of attention or some other lack of?”

They usually look startled and maybe for the first time think,
“My associates talk about ME
at the dinner table??!!”

Yes, they do! We’re all aware that the manager is THE representative of the company to any employee. How the manager behaves, coaches, interacts, represents, communicates with, recognizes and motivates his/her employees has huge influence.

So how does a manager “understand how I am affecting the people around me”?

It can begin by understanding oneself – which is why we use DiSC in our development classes. DiSC provides that view of self in the work environment that may reinforce what one already knows or it may provide new insights about a manager’s behavior at work – either way, it’s information a wise person will use.

This is immensely popular knowledge with managers – we all like learning more about ourselves (usually!!!)

But how does a manager extend that knowledge and make it even more valuable by applying it to team members? Take DiSC beyond the profile!

We are now using an advanced version of the profile called “Everything DiSC Management”.  It takes the critical skills a manager should be proficient in, relates them to the DiSC styles of his/her team members with the goal of being a better manager and doing the “right stuff”.

Here’s what the Everything DiSC Management package includes:

Six one-hour modules, fully scripted facilitation with engaging experiential and processing activities. Facilitator notes give tips to maximize learning.
Easily customizable
  • Create a customized solution for every session. Fits any timeframe: from one-hour to full-day.
  • Title it anything that fits your training plan – you don’t have to call it Everything DiSC Management
  • Personalize the PowerPoint slides
  • Re-arrange, delete videos as you’d like
Managers learn about themselves, but also critical leadership skills:
  • Their DiSC Management Style: How DiSC affects management style, examining their priorities as managers

  • Directing and Delegating: Their strengths and challenges when directing and delegating

  • Motivation: How DiSC styles influence how people are motivated

  • Developing Others: Their natural styles of developing others

  • Working with Your Manager: To influence and communicate effectivelywith their managers by meeting their DiSC needs and preferences

Look at that last topic: Working with Your Managers! A much-needed, rarely taught skill! And Directing & Delegating, Motivation and Developing Others are all critical skills for the best managers.

We’ve been writing to you for months about making your training stick, about transferring your training to the workplace. That’s exactly what you’re doing with Everything DiSC Management.Managers take their basic knowledge of behavior styles (even if this is the first time they’re exposed to DiSC) and extend it into the most important interactions they have with employees.
