Leadership & Interpersonal Effectiveness
| |
Do you ever wonder why...
You get the reaction or response from others that you do?
You have friction with someone though you're both working for the same goals? Some people get bogged down in detail and can't see the big picture!? Some people can only see the big picture and have no patience for detail!? Some people can't keep up with the pace of change?
Others seem to thrive on creating change?
We could go on with "wonder why's", but you know the point...people are different! We behave differently, we're driven by varied needs...and we aren't going to change others, are we?
| We may not be able to change others, but we can make simple, smart behavior adaptations ourselves to improve our interactions with others. That's what Interpersonal Effectiveness is all about - getting along with others in a particular situation to accomplish certain goals. The situation may be at work, at home, in school or in the community, but it's success depends on our ability to function successfully with others - even though they behave very differently! |
| At ALD, we approach Interpersonal Effectiveness by understanding behavioral styles according to the DiSC® Dimensions of Behavior from Inscape Publishing. |
| We've used DiSC® for years because it is straightforward, specific about behaviors and it's accurate - people always comment about how "on-target" the profile is - and if people believe in the profile's accuracy, they are more willing to initiate behavior adaptations. |
| This educational instrument is based on the time-tested DiSC theory that provides powerful insights into your work and social style. It will enable you to DiSCover and define how you view yourself and how you want others to see you. And through that process, you will learn more about the real you - there may even be some surprises. |
| DiSC® isn't an exam; there are no "right" or "wrong" answers . It is a tool for helping you DiSCover and analyze your own behavioral style so that you can better adapt your behavior to particular situations and create more productive working and interpersonal relationships with others. |

DiSC Theory
Dr. William M. Marston, a Columbia University psychologist in the early 20th century, developed the theory of human behavior on which the Personal Profile System® (PPS) is based. Through his extensive research, he identified four major behavioral patterns that are present in all people, but to varying degrees.
Marston's theory contends that these four patterns emerge as a result of various combinations of certain key factors. Most people tend to be either task-oriented or people-oriented. Another way to describe people is by their response to the environment.
| Some people are assertive or active; they want to shape or change their environment to better suit themselves. Others are more responsive; they tend to accept things as they are and try to do the best job possible within their environment. Using these four factors: task vs. people, assertive vs. responsive, we can place people into one of four quadrants. |
| Over the years, many other researchers have built on this four-dimensional model of personality, making it one of the most popular systems for teaching people about behavioral styles. Our collection of reports is based on the following factors: |

The drive to control, to achieve results.
